Miniature Poodles
Height: 11"-14"
Weight: 12-16 lbs
Life Expectancy: 15 years plus
ORIGIN
Although the Poodle was originally standardized in France this breed descended from the Barbet of northern Africa.
It was not until 1936 did the FCI officially recognize France as the Poodles birth place.
Initially used for hunting waterfowl, it became a favorite of noble ladies under Louis XIV.
The Poodle comes in four varieties according to size,
the Standard, the Medium, the Miniature and the Toy Poodle.
DESCRIPTION
The Poodle has a sturdy well proportion body and head.
The nose of the Poodle will match the coloring of its coat with black
or very dark brown to darker amber eyes depending on coat color.
Their body should be longer than it is in height at the withers and have strong muscular well boned legs.
Their tails are docked by one-third to one-half in the curly coated variety.
TEMPERAMENT
Poodles are generally considered to be intelligent, alert, and athletic.
Poodles are extremely people-oriented dogs and, therefore eager to please.
Because they are intelligent they can become bored easily s
o they need good stimulation to prevent destructive or bad behavior.
They make great little watch dogs but don't usually become "one-person" dogs when they are part of a family.
PREFERRED LIVING ENVIRONMENT
They are just as comfortable in the country as they are in the city,
the toy and miniature making great apartment dogs.
EXERCISE AND GROOMING
Exercise requirement is dependant on which size standard one has, the toy breed requiring the least.
They are a clean breed know not to shed hair but require daily brushing to ensure their coat does not get matted.
The ears must be checked regularly and they should be groomed every two months.
There are several different clips: the Continental (or Lion) clip, the Kennel clip, and the English Saddle clip.
HEALTH CONCERNS
For toy and miniature Poodles owners should watch for, cataracts, entropion, epilepsy, and patellar luxation.
